30 Days of Thankfulness.

Day 8: My Job.

I love working for Louisiana Tech University! It is seriously a major blessing in my life.

When I knew we would be living in Northern Louisiana I had mixed emotions. I had spent so much of my time in graduate school developing relationships with my professors in hopes of obtaining a job in Fort Worth. Then I found out that we would be living here where I knew no one and had developed zero connections. I remember feeling overwhelmed and nervous about finding a counseling position. I remember one weekend that I came to visit Grayson in Jonesboro and he drove me around Ruston trying to show me some of the possibilities that would stem from our living here.

When we drove past the Methodist Children's Home and I saw their outpatient clinic, I thought, "Hmm, I could try and apply there," but when we drove by Tech, I remember thinking, "Man, working for a university would be my dream job." I serioulsy thought it was a pipe dream though, knowing I had little experience and wasn't local. The Lord literally opened the door for me to interview and get hired. A hiring freeze had been in effect and had just lifted which is what made the position available and then one-two months after I got hired the Governor placed another hiring freeze that is still in effect 4 years later. I love doing counseling with this demographic and love working with the sororities on campus. Although it keeps me busy, it also keeps me satisfied and for that, I'm thankful.
