King and Queen of Hearts, Second Year.

If some of you are regular blog readers, you'll remember last year when I wrote about the Forrest Haven Nursing Home "King and Queen of Hearts" Beauty Pageant. It's a local pageant for the residents of the nursing home where the winners go on to represent Forrest Haven in a state wide competition. It's a pretty big deal for the residents ... they get their fancy outfits pressed, the ladies have their hair, nails and make-up done by local high school students and then family and friends are invited to participate. The local Kiwanis club serves as volunteers to help the evening run smoothly.

Well, this year Grayson and I were able to participate for the second time and we had a blast. He was an escort and I was asked to be a JUDGE! This is slightly comical because for those of you that know anything, you'll remember that I am not a member of the Kiwanis club, so how I got to serve in this position I'll never know, but I am extremely thankful for it. It was so much fun and I had a blast learning about each participant and watching them smile up on stage.

Due to the fact that we are heavy in the Mardi Gras season, the theme for this year was "The Krewe of the Pines". The picture below doesn't really do justice to the wonderful decorations and food that were served. And don't worry, there were homemade diabetic friendly cookies ... they were deelish!
Rachel, the previous Kiwanis president, presided as Mistress of Ceremonies and got to wear a wonderful Mardi Gras costume. Her duties consisted of introducing each participant, giving them an opportunity to show off their outfit and smile, and then asking them one interview question. She definitely made the evening interesting and gave us all some good laughs.Grayson did such a wonderful job escorting some of the participants. Here he is with the winner of the Ms. Congeniality contest! And here are the winners of the pageant. When Rachel shared the interest and hobbies of this man, which just happened to be "chasing women", the other two judges and I knew instantly that he was bound for the crown. He was so comical, entertaining and hilarious that we just had to give the award to him. The lady to his right was equally as charming and was shocked to no end that she won. They will now head on to represent Jonesboro in a regional pageant. We wish them good luck and look forward to serving in this great contest next year!
