This weekend while attending a shower for Dave & Kristen (that blog and pics to follow) I finally got my hair cut for Locks of Love. After growing my hair for the past year and a half, the time had finally come where I reached the 10 inch mark required for donation. Below is a picture of the "before" shot.
Here is where Rosa, my hairstylist for over 4 years now, started the process. She had to put my hair in a ponytail and then cut above it. At this point, I'm not really nervous, just mostly excited.
Here she is cutting above the ponytail. She literally had to take 9-10 snips and switch hands during the process because my hair wass so thick. The weirdest part was feeling the hair pull away from my neck with each slice of the scissors. I'm watching Grayson's reaction to the haircut in the mirror. He was so supportive and excited (as you can tell my by smile).
Okay, here I am holding the 10 inches of hair that will be donated. I am not obviously disgusted at my own hair, but deep down I was squirming at the fact that I was holding that lock. I think I need to add "hair that is disconnected from the head" to my gross-out list. From the front it actually doesn't look too bad.
But from the back ... please note how crooked it is. This was the first time in this whole process where I really began to freak out. It was lopsided, my neck was cold and it just felt weird. Rosa told me not to worry, that it would turn out fine. So off we went to wash, trim and style. She did an amazing job and I love my new due so much!
The finished product. Exactly what I was going for!
The "after" shot, if you will.
Getting ready to go into public for the first time with my new due. Appropriately, Whit and I went swimming at the Colonial pool in Fort Worth. It felt so good to have short hair in the hot Fort Worth weather.
This was so much fun for me. I've had a lot of friends who have donated hair to locks of love in the past and I've always wanted to do it, but never really thought I could. I decided that it wouldn't take anything to grow out my hair and since it's for a great cause we went for it. Grayson was such an amazing sport throughout the whole thing, what with my loose strands getting everywhere! Please, if you are interested in doing this go to the website and check it out. It is super easy and fun!

LOVE the haircut! Almost as much as I loved getting to see you two this weekend! Thanks so much for coming to our shower! Marianne did Locks of Love last year and really enjoyed it too!
Awesome! We are going to try it with my son's hair. It's alraday at 6 1/2 inches, but it's sooo curly you can't tell.
aww... bravo!
my locks of love donation was much more bittersweet... but it was still a wonderful feeling in the end.
