Lion's Club Installation

The theme for this year's Lion Club Installation was "Tacky Tourist". Madalyn and Thurston really went all out and dressed the part; they looked great. Grayson and I were lucky enough to attend as Thurston's guests for the evening. He was installed as Lion Tamer for the next year.
The decorations at the luau were AMAZING!!! Above, you can see the entrance we saw upon walking into the gym. It was beautiful. The entire gym was decorated with a Hawaiian theme too. It was like we were instantly transported to another venue in Maui.

Upon walking in to the gym we received our nametags which appropriately had our Hawaiian equivalent names. I became Akalei and Grayson became something to the effect of Kokomoie. There were lots of games for us to play as well. Below is a picture of a pig; guests were encouraged to try and "slaughter" it for a prize. What we actually did was through darts at the side of it and whoever got closest to the magic marker heart, won. My dart actually flew underneath the pig and across the gym. Good thing I figured this would happen and therefore was able to warn those to remove themselves from the danger zone prior to my throw. Apparently, Grayson has a much better aim than I do because his dart actually stuck into the watermelon. He was one of the closest ones to the heart! I really thought this was a fun and creative idea!
They also had a hula-hooping contest and of course, Grayson and Chuck went first. The only thing is that they didn't tell you when you volunteered that these hula-hoops were "special" hula-hoops. They were actually borrowed from the local Curves in town and each one weighed approximately 3-5 lbs. Talk about a workout! This was definitely entertainment at its best.
Madalyn and Thurston made it into the final round of competition. They were the winners because 1) they hula-d for the longest time and 2) they were by far the most entertaining. They actually walked around with their hoops! It was very impressive!
Here is the real reason we came to the Tacky Tourist party. To help honor those taking office for the 2008-2009 Lion's Club year. Both Kathy and Thurston were installed into various positions and we know they will serve the Jonesboro-Hodge area well. Grayson and I were extremely thankful that we were able to attend such a fun and entertaining evening!
