Introducing the Newest Member of the Allen Family ...

Ava the Avocado Plant!
For starters, I wish we could say that we have tons of interesting stuff going on in our lives right now, but the truth is that this is the extent of our current activities: trying to grow an avocado plant from the seed! Second, I don't want anyone to stop reading our blog and I feel that if I let a few days slip by with words unwritten that we may lose our audience. So please just indulge us as we stall until the eventful weekend that lies ahead of us occurs and then we will have appropriate Blog Content!
.
Anyways, I think I remember my parents telling me when I was little that when they were first married they grew avocado plants and that they were super easy and very pretty. So, seeing as how it is the harvest season and we're eating numerous avocados around our house, I decided to extend my gardening abilities by growing a plant! I also decided to name the plant because 1) I figure if it has a name, I will be less likely to kill it and 2) it's just more fun this way.

An aerial view of Ava.

And here, you can barely see the nub coming out the bottom. Supposedly, the roots will grow long and white, while green shoots will come out the top. If Ava is a success (like I intend her to be) I have already decided that Caddo will be next (appropriately named after Caddo Lake in East Texas, close to the Louisiana border, and it's the last part of the words avo-cado!) Haha ... I know I'm sort of dorky, but that's okay because hopefully you guys will check in to see how Ava progresses.
