JOH Ride Along

The Journey of Hope South team rode through Ruston this weekend. This is something that Kathy helps to host each summer. She provides lunch for all of the cyclists and their crew as they cycle from Shreveport to Monroe. I have been able to help for the past 2 summers which is such a blessing. Journey of Hope changed Grayson's life and so to be able to offer support to these guys means so much to me.

There were two groups that rode along with the college students as well. A cycling group from Ruston and Monroe. They were kind enough to invite Grayson to some of their weekly rides. He is considering getting back into cycling and might even convince me of some of the fun that awaits cyclists.
Here is Grayson. At this point in the day, he had eaten no breakfast, drank no water and was about 30 minutes away from riding 40 miles. Needless to say, he gobbled down a few sandwiches, loaded up on gatorade and went to purchase some inexpensive sunglasses for the ride. Now that's what I like to call spontaneous.
I know the picture is small, but here we are with all of the riders, their crew and a few of the Founding Fathers of the Pi Kappa Phi chapter at Louisiana Tech University. They came out to support the guys as well. We had the biggest turnout since we started serving this lunch a few years ago. It was a gorgeous day w/ little humidity and a wonderful breeze which made for smooth riding.
Here is Grayson getting geared up for his ride. I'd like to mention that he did a fantastic job. I don't think he will mind my mentioning this, but he hasn't ridden his bike at all since we've been married, so the spokes on his bike actually had cobwebs on them. Without practicing or training at all for this ride, he went out there and performed with the best of those 20 year old guys. I was slightly nervous for him, but he performed excellently and made it to Monroe without getting a flat or passing out :) I was thrilled!
This is him riding off with the first paceline. He was very excited and ready for a great ride. And while Grayson was riding 40 miles to Monroe on a bicycle, I drove my car over and went shopping and purchased some delicious cupcakes from my favorite cupcakery in West Monroe. As I waited for the guys to arrive, I got a little bored so I decided to take pictures of the yummy treats. Needless to say, I think Grayson deserves the prize for most athletic over this weekend. I'm not quite sure that shopping rivals cycling, but then again I could be wrong.
