Thank you Underwoods!

For the inspiration to become Do-It-Yourself-ers! And also, thank you Stephenson's for donating this wonderful bench swing to the Allen family! When I was in college, I lived at the Greene House in Fort Worth. We had a wonderful porch swing where I would go outside with a cup of coffee, my Bible and just lay and read while feeling a cool breeze. I have always wanted to emulate those wonderful mornings at the Greene House. There seemed to be something magical in the time spent on that swing. Unfortunately, right now Grayson and I don't have a porch where we can re-create that scene, so we opted to do our best. Now we have a wooden bench swing which is just as good.
My co-worker, Jessica, offered to grant Grayson and me the opportunity to fix up this swing in order to use it outside our house. Here is what it looked like after the paint was power-washed off. It really was in great condition, minus a few loose boards and some rusty chains.
I wish I could say that we completed this project, but we didn't ... well at least not technically. I guess you could say we are only HALF do-it-yourself-ers. It's just that with the Louisiana heat & humidity, in the dead of summer, neither of us had the energy to go outside and sand down our new swing. But being as impatient as I am and remembering how wonderful it felt to wake up and swing in the silence, I really "needed" this project completed, and quickly. So ... we called one of our friends who helps us out from time to time and he completed the project for us. Honestly, he did a much better job than we could ever have dreamed of doing. He replaced all the broken boards, put on bigger, stronger chains and then primed, sanded and gave this baby two fresh coats of paint. She is a real beauty now.
I've already enjoyed the swing 3 times and am looking forward to the cooler season so that Grayson can sit outside with me without worrying about being attacked by mosquitos. It really is wonderful addition to our "patio area" and has encouraged us to pursue more outdoor activities like playing bagg-o and horseshoes. With our yard updated (thanks to Grayson) and now with more seating, we're ready to throw ourselves into outdoor living!
