King & Queen of Hearts

Last night Grayson and I had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer with the local Kiwanis club by helping with the annual "King & Queen of Hearts Beauty Pageant". The pageant took place at an area nursing home where the Kiwanis president works. We handed out programs, welcomed guests and most importantly escorted many of the contestants on stage to participate in the festivities.

The dining room was decorated to the max. There were red, white & silver helium balloons, pink & red flower arrangements and desserts galore! Each contestant was presented w/ a red carnation corsage or boutonniere to wear. It was obvious that each contestant put much thought and effort into their warddrobe as well. Each woman's hair was neatly curled, nails freshly painted and make-up done right. The men were equally handsome in their finely pressed suits and shined shoes. You could feel the anticipation rise as each contestant got wheeled onto the stage, spun for all to see and then asked one question for the interview portion of the competition.

The close of the evening quickly came once the judges points were tallied and the results were ready to be presented. The prizes ranged from Mr. & Mrs. Congeniality to Mr. & Mrs. Photogenic and finally to the 1st and 2nd runner-up which led to the crowning of the King & Queen of Hearts! Grayson and I were able to go on stage together because both of our contestants won Mr. & Mrs. Photogenic!!! They were thrilled to receive rose bouquets and baskets of goodies for their beautiful pictures! It was a fantastic evening and we were honored to take a part in the biggest coronation of Jackson Parish!
