What I've been doing since August.

It's not really my style to go so long between posts, but I feel like I have a great excuse this time ... LIFE. Yep, it happened and in the meantime it got in the way of "my fun things"! I'm sure you all can relate on some level that sometimes life just becomes more important than blogging. So as a quick recap on what I've been doing, I've included pictures b/c let's be serious, we mostly like the photos when people have been away for a while.
So as the new Panhellenic Advisor at Louisiana Tech, my main task is to help with recruitment. That's what kept me busy for the first two weeks. The end of August and the first week of September we were busy with "work week". Any sorority alumni out there is well aware of the work involved during work week. Long days full of planning, organizing, learning and implementing. And that's exactly what we did. During the midst of work week, Tech started it's fall quarter which meant we had much to do in the counseling center as we attempted to begin marketing all of our wonderful services to incoming freshmen. I was busy meeting incoming freshmen, marketing our services and trying to recruit girls to join recruitment.

Then came the actual week of recruitment. I had a love/hate relationship with recruitment. I loved it because I got to meet approximately 200 incoming freshmen, I got to know our Panhellenic Council extremely well and I got to observe how the process actually works on this campus. I hated it b/c it meant late nights and early mornings, dealing with a ton of logistics and again lack of sleep. I'll fill you in more about recruitment in another post.
After recruitment I literally had three days to teach numerous resume seminars because Career Day was on the horizon. Another role I play is the Career Development Coordinator which means I am here to help students get a great looking resume to present to potential employers for the career fair. Those three days were a blur mostly b/c I was on the verge of doing presentations, packing for a conference and getting sick. I left straight from there to go down to NOLA for our annual counseling conference.
This is always a very important conference mostly b/c that's where I obtain my continuing ed credits needed for the whole year. It's also a fun time spent with colleagues and other counselors from across the state of Louisiana. We had a great time in NOLA and were there for another week. Upon my return we had Career Day which went off very well.
In the midst of all of this, I was/am still training for my half-marathon in three weeks. And we were dealing with these guys which were a handful. Not really "we", more Grayson was dealing with them b/c I was away from the house for a majority of September.
I barely made it through alive and am still recuperating. Our house was a wreck for the entire month, I'm not really sure what Grayson ate while I was away and I still haven't sorted through the three inch pile of paperwork on my desk yet! But ... the end is in site, I know it! I do love the fall, but sadly this fall is running away right before my very eyes. Today is the first day that I've had to actually be still and catch my breath. It feels good.
There will be more to come on each of these topics, but I just wanted to let you know that I'm back and ready to de-stress by writing some blogs!
