You should try it sometime.

Sleeping in your guest quarters, that is. With our downstairs air conditioner being out the past few days we had the opportunity to travel upstairs and test out the guest quarters ourselves. This was such a great thing for us to do, so great in fact, that I decided to recommend it to you!

If you don't sleep where your guests will sleep, you may never realize all the little quirks that will make the stay pleasant or not-so-pleasant. For instance, we never knew that both fans in the upstairs rooms squeak. They actually squeak so loud that I had to get up in the middle of the night and turn them off! Now I know why my brother-in-law took the glass covering off of the fan when he stayed with us (oops)! Also, the shower faucet nozzle is extremely low. Don't ask me why, but it's about 5-6" too low. I'm not a tall girl and even I have to duck to get my hair under the water. I wonder how someone taller than 5'7" will handle that? On the flip side, the guest bedroom is hands down the coldest room in the house making for a very comfortable night's sleep. The bed is super firm and inviting; I'm also glad we didn't scrimp on the sheet's thread count b/c that was a nice perk I wasn't expecting. There were a few things (if I were a guest) that I would have liked to have had up there: some candles, extra toothbrushes and toothpaste, some magazines and maybe a few other odds and ends.

I figure if people are going to come visit us I want their stay to feel like a vacation, a retreat, a little time away where they can enjoy themselves. Had I never stayed upstairs I never would have known these little things. And seriously, it's not like your guest is going to tell you so you might as well do it yourself and make whatever improvements necessary!

Well I have tried out the guest quarters at our house. That would be Briley's twin size rock hard bed without a spring mattress. I think I would rather be a guest at your house.

I've read that this is the proper thing to do, unfortunately the guests at my house usually end up in Darden's room...comfortable bed, but I'm not sure how they feel about the airplanes hanging above their head!
