Blonde Moment

One of my good friends had a baby the other day and while visiting her and the sweet baby in the hospital we got to chatting about who had visited and who was still planning to come. She mentioned that her sister-in-law would probably not make it until later that evening due to having a heavy work schedule. For the life of me, I couldn't remember what her profession was, and being in the career counseling field I'm suddenly way more interested in knowing people's professions and learning all I can, so I obviously asked to be reminded of what she does.

To this my friend responded, "Oh, she does speech therapy with horses." Her husband interjected that there was another therapist who does physical therapy with the horses so he thought his sister would get to leave work a little earlier than normal. After processing a few thoughts in my head I found myself confused and frustrated. Being a career counselor has opened my eyes to the numerous occuaptions available to people, but for the life of me I couldn't find the logic in speech therapy with horses. Finally, I just decided to ask for clarification "Why would a horse need to be able to speak?"

To that, both of my friends died laughing and clarified for me. The sister-in-law does not do speech therapy WITH or ON horses, rather she USES horses to do speech therapy with children. To my defense, the wording was very confusing!

In your defense, Mr. Ed was a talking horse. So possibly, there are therapists out there who are teaching horses to talk! Jessica Simpson would be proud!

You are completely justified in your thought process! It make perfect sense. As I was reading the physical therapy part, I am picturing a horse's knee being wrapped in ace bandages with a medicine ball close by :)
