We have a cat. At least, I think we have a cat. Unless last night she was just being a free-loader, but I'm pretty sure we have a cat.
Easter of this past year I received a call from my brother-in-law Thurston, who at the time, was slightly confused. He asked if I was playing a trick on him, to which I replied no. For some reason, he assumed that either I or his mom had dropped off a tiny kitten inside of a rabbit cage w/ random toys as his Easter gift. While this might seem like something I could do, Thurston should have known that I would never give someone another animal as a gift. Let alone a cat! Reason being is that I don't necessarily love cats.
In fact, I love dogs, but not really cats. I'm not what you would call a "cat person" which makes the title of this blog so appropriate.
Even earlier this year, when I was driving to Sonic for happy hour, I heard something in my car that sounded similar to a purr. I arrived to place my order and when my window was rolled down I heard a loud purring sound again. I figured it was only because of the location that this was so loud. I still get chills on my arms remembering this event. As I continued to drive back to work, the purring got louder and louder and louder, until finally I got out of the denial stage and realized there had to be a cat somewhere inside my car.
Long story short, after going to 3 different oil change locations, the last one finally opened the hood and found a little cat staring at me and 3 other men with this horrified face. I jumped back and screamed and unfortunately (and probably because of that) we didn't catch him so I was forced to drive my 30 minute commute from Ruston to Jonesboro with a cat stuck inside the hood of my car - purring the entire way. Per the advice of my dad, I left the hood open that evening and prayed the cat would get out.
It did.
Now I'm not saying that this "hood cat" and "Thurston's cat" are the same animal, but they do strike a similar resemblance.
Getting back to the point, Thurston adamantly stated he didn't want this cat, but feeling sorry for it I believe he fed it a few times which thereby, allowed everyone to identify it as Thurston's cat. Well recently it has been sighted going back and forth between our yards (which makes sense seeing as how we're neighbors). So last night as Grayson brought home pizza he immediately asked me not to be mad at him. This is what I saw behind him.
The cat had already opened our trash and found some meat to eat for dinner. Upon seeing this, I turn around to find Grayson running to our pantry to get a plate so that our new friend could eat some pizza. After 2 slices, you would think this little thing would have been full!
I didn't realize until last night what a soft spot Grayson has for cats. After a little prodding about how this cat will help keep mice, snakes and other critters away, I was convinced that we could keep this pet, as an outside cat only. So off to Fred's we went only to return with a flea collar, cat food and bowl for our new friend ... which weirdly, was no where to be found.
We think it's a girl because of her sweet temperament. Since we don't know for sure though, we aren't positive of the name for this little thing. We have a few options, but I believe the current front runner is T.C. which obviously stands for "Thurston's cat"! If that one doesn't fly though, we're up for any suggestions you guys might have. My second suggestion this morning was "Freeloader" because after our friend ate her 2 pieces of pizza and after we purchased all of her supplies, she was no where to be found. Cool. Grayson assures me that she will return and I trust him, it's just fun to tease.
This is my husband super excited that I said yes to the addition of our newest family member. In a final attempt to seal the deal, he reassured me that cats are one of the easiest pets to have. I learned that (according to Grayson) they fall right below taking care of fish. So I guess this situation could be worse? I could be taking care of a fish.
