Just another typical day ...

Having recently moved to Louisiana, I continue to learn about all the wonderful things that make Louisiana unique. Growing up in Texas, the whole "transportation of livestock" thing has always been acceptable to me. Whenever non-Texans mentioned to me how weird they thought it was to look over, while traveling on the interstate, and find themselves staring at a horse's or cow's rear-end, I never comprehended why that would be "weird". For me, watching livestock being transported from here to there was not abnormal, rather it was totally the norm. That was, until I moved to Louisiana and realized that transportation of any livestock is just not normal. I learned quickly that their livestock comes in much smaller forms and is a little bit funnier to see on the highway for some reason ...

While driving to work the other morning I glanced up only to see approximately 1000 chickens being transported to who knows where (cough, cough Tyson Farms, cough). The reason I know there were over 1000 chickens on this 18-wheeler is because I had enough time to "work the numbers" (to use a Grayson phrase) as I drove past flying feathers and other "chicken waste" on my way to work. If you take the 10 crates high and multiply that by approximately 9 chickens per crate and then multiply that by the 12 rows of chickens, you should come out with similar figures. Please note the white blur in the photo. It's not my poor photography skills, no ... it is a chicken feather flying free.

Can you believe that this is just another typical day in the life of Ashley Allen? Me neither, but I absolutely love it!
