The word Edamame means "Beans on Branches," and it grows in clusters on bushy branches?
In a nutshell, edamame is basically a soy bean, plucked prior to the hardening stage of the bean life cycle. To retain the freshness and its natural flavor, it is parboiled and quick-frozen. In East Asia, the soybean has been used for over two thousand years as a major source of protein. Edamame can be consumed as a snack where the pods are lightly boiled in salted water, and then the seeds are squeezed directly from the pods into the mouth with the fingers. It is not only yummy, but fun too :)
Did you also know that this snack makes for a delightfully refreshing snack while celebrating Memorial Day on the lake? Me neither, but Ms. Beverly proved this to be true. If you haven't tried these delictable snacks, you should ... they are deliciously addictive. You can buy them at Pei Wei or attempt to boil them at home in some salt water. Scrumptious!
