Home Economics

is a lost art. The closest my high school came to offering Home Economics was a crafts class. I learned how to make cool Christmas ornaments, fry crabmeat rangoons and paint pottery, but besides that I'm mostly at a loss when it comes to home economicky type things. Luckily for us, my mom practically majored in home ec and is a pro at all that home-making stuff. To be more specific ... she's a great seamstress.

We have lived in our house for almost 2 years and we're still in the process of making it a home. This past weekend my mom & I went shopping for curtains for our living room. Grayson and I are what you might call EXTREMELY high maintenance when it comes to decorating our home. And when I say high maintenance, what I really mean is that it takes us forever to decide on anything. We've been waiting and waiting for the perfect rug to come along, after which we planned to get matching curtains. But seeing as how an entire year has past w/o our finding "THE" rug, we decided to get curtains and pillows instead, foregoing a rug completely. Even still, we were unable to find "THE" curtains so we opted to make some of our own.

After shopping around all day, we ended up at a quaint local fabric store in Ruston. My mom and I took numerous swatches home and after 4 hours of my mom, Grayson (yes, he actually had a lot of great input on the whole situation) and myself looking at the swatches we were able to choose and then design all 11 pillows. The project is lined up and ready to start. We are very excited to finally have a polished looking living room.

These are the swatches of the fabric we will use in our living room. My mom and grandmother will be sewing voraciously over the next few weeks, I'm sure, to help us continue decorating our home. It is special to us that these will be beautiful homemade decorations that we'll have forever! The floral print are our curtains, while the other swatches will be accent pillows used throughout the room. Once we're finished, we'll put up photos of the room (and maybe even of the house) for those of you who haven't had a chance to visit us yet!
