Well worth the effort.

And very little effort at that!

This weekend I had my first ever garage sale! It was a huge success! Huge success = didn't take a lot of work and I made a little money in the deal.

The background story is this ... as part of FPU the whole class goes in together to do a garage sale at the end of the sessions. The money earned can be used for some people to get out of debt, put towards their emergency fund or to just have some extra cash lying around. Unfortunately, Grayson and I were going to be out of town the weekend they do their sale so when I read on my friend Joanna's blog that she was looking for people to join her in doing a garage sale, I was all in.
Joanna, Larkin and Rachel all decided to go in together and do a "multi-family" garage sale. We did it at our house which worked out perfectly b/c there were like 3 other sales close by that morning. Made it easier for the shoppers, or so we told ourselves!

It was a great opportunity to clean out our house of the little odds and ends that we don't use or have no need for anymore. I was a little embarrassed to whip out some of my "treasures" to sell b/c it just reinforced that at some point I had to think investing in certain items was worth the $$$. The above boxes are case-in-point. I bought these unfinished boxes in college, hopefully at the time I was thinking, "Oh these are cute. I could paint them or decorate them and they would look really good!" Obviously, I lacked the motivation to do so and ended up just using these boxes in their natural condition. What? Was? I? Thinking? These boxes are so ugly! This truth was only reinforced by the fact that I could not give the things away at the garage sale. All of us girls really thought they would be a hot item, but as the morning progressed, we quickly learned that off to goodwill they would go!
Even though we had to wake up at 5:30am to get everything situated, it was totally worth it. We each made a little bit of money and we had fun doing it. If you can see in the above picture (bottom right), Brinley even had fun. She was the garage sale mascot. She wore her Tech jersey and kept all the guests entertained as she rushed here and there and even ended up with a few price tags stuck to her nose. I think this fall garage sale was a huge success and will more than likely get together with these girls in the spring and do another one!
