According to Wikipedia, a staycation is "time in which an individual or family stays and relaxes at home or a nearby hotel, possibly taking day trips to area attractions." For Barkley though, her staycation is defined slightly different. Barkley is "stay-cationing" with Kathy & Chuckster ... indefinitely.
Having two dogs was fun, but ultimately not the best fit for our family and our active lifestyle. It was a difficult decision, but one we had to make and one we are content with. After struggling in our management of two puppies and a cat, it just got to the point where Grayson and I had to sit down, have a heart-to-heart and make a decision about what was best for our family/marriage.
We decided that sending Barkley on a staycation with KK & Chuckster might be the best option. Barkley has always been our outgoing, social, full of energy dog while Brinley is more mild-mannered, she explores quietly on her own and minds a little bit better. When we were thinking through this decision, Grayson said he would be willing to try having only one dog ... as long as it was Brinley. She doesn't have to be by your side 24/7, she doesn't bark as loud, she will come lay next to you quietly if you ask her to etc... Barkley, on the other hand. Well, she needs more social interaction, she needs to be around others most of the time which is why letting her staycation in Hodge seemed like a great idea. There is way more going on down there and thus Barkley is happy. With this decision, we still get to see her, she and Brinley will still get to play together and Barkley can run and play with all the other animals down in Hodge.
We miss Barkley very much, maybe me a little bit more than Grayson, but we know she is having a blast, she is probably being spoiled rotten and ultimately she is loving life down in Hodge. As a side note: I got her the cutest purple sweater, for TCU of course, so I'll make sure to snap a pick next time I see her.
